 Photographic Manipulations~!

Photobucket

A stereographic projection is a projection of the sphere onto an infinite plane. It has a whole range of nice properties, that makes it ideal to present equirectangular panoramas:
* it is conformal: all angles are conserved so (local) shapes are preserved.
* it is azimuthal: the direction from the center of the projection is the true one. This property also holds for the simple "polar panoramas" you can do with photoshop.
* it maps the whole sphere minus one point, so you can show as much detail as you want
* it is very easy to create: all you need is hugin and an equirectangular panorama.

Photobucket

Exposure time was 13 seconds... The above pic is a stereographic projection of an equirectangular image.

The picture below is the original equirectangular image from which the other two were manipulated. (I had meant to put that in earlier, but I overlooked it somewhere, where's my mind?)

I think these are two awesome pictures, and you can visualize the stars in the pics even!

Here is a great stereographic projection! Acc. to the caption, this was taken just outside the Saint Germain en Laye church, in France. I am just fascinated by this technique! Awesome, huh?

Okay, one more. Check out an original photograph and then below it the polar panorama.

hey, I want a picture of my house like this, don't you? it's cool!

Have a great day bloggers.

Well, it seems as though I am going to get a refund this year; all totaled will be approximately 19 hundred bucks! Yippee! YAY~! This makes my day!

The update on son-in-law is that he is being moved out of ICU today; however his kidney function remains in question. Labs show that creatinine is 8.3 this morning after dialysis last night, (normal creatinine runs 0.something to 1.2) so as you can see, more dialysis is needed.

 Transcription Today ...

Dr. O dictates, "positive history of stool in the blood?"

huh? now you know that ain't right!

Word is that son-in-law's kidneys are still not functioning and his lab work proves this. He may be undergoing dialysis again today. Of course, this could turn into a chronic issue, along with a renal diet, and lifestyle changes. This is definitely turning out to be a life altering event for all involved.

I am trying to work a full day, and actually managed to get in 8 hours yesterday, but with a 5-year-old, a 2-year-old, and a daughter who is stressed out with her husband in ICU, I am easily distracted ... LOL ... go figure!

The youngest was accepted into daycare for a few days which has helped out tremendously; and the 5-year-old is supposed to be going with her mother most times, but ends up in front of the TV because I'm working and her mother is at the hospital.

You would think that if his mother and father were at the hospital as well as extended family, that someone could help chip in and take care of the kids a little more. However, that has not happened.

Well, back to the grind! I'll post some other bloopers as I type them!

Hope everybody is having a good day.

thanks to all for the prayers and good thoughts on SIL's recovery.

 Remembering Charlton Heston

Charlton Heston as Moses

Whenever someone recites the name of Charlton Heston, I think of The Ten Commandments. What Charlton Heston movie do you think of?

Heston, the Oscar-winning actor who, as the biggest male star of Hollywood's outsize epic era of the 1950s and 1960s, parted the Red Sea, raced chariots and battled gorilla tyranny, died Saturday April 5th, at his Beverly Hills home. He was 84, his family said, and had been battling Alzheimer's disease for years.

"We knew him as an adoring husband, a kind and devoted father, and a gentle grandfather, with an infectious sense of humor," the statement said. "He served these far greater roles with tremendous faith, courage and dignity. He loved deeply, and he was deeply loved."

What a beautiful sentiment don't you think?

Rest in peace, forever Moses to me.

 Heard This One?

When southern Florida resident Nathan Radlich's house was burglarized recently, thieves ignored his wide screen plasma TV, his VCR, and even left his Rolex watch. What they did take, however, was "a generic white cardboard box filled with a grayish-white powder." (That, at least, is the way the police report described it.)

A spokesman for the Fort Lauderdale police said, "that it looked similar to high grade cocaine and they'd probably thought they'd hit the big time." Later, Nathan stood in front of the numerous TV cameras and pleaded with the burglars: "Please return the cremated remains of my sister, Gertrude. She died three years ago."

The next morning, the bullet-riddled corpse of a local drug dealer known as Hoochie Pevens was found on Nathan's doorstep. The cardboard box was there too; about half of Gertrude's ashes remained. Scotch taped to the box was this note which said : "Hoochie sold us the bogus blow, so we wasted Hoochie. Sorry we snorted your sister. No hard feelings. Have a nice day."

This is a true story NOT!

Hope you guys have a great day.

For those of you who want an update, my son-in-law was more responsive in ICU once they would wake him up for neurological "holiday" checks, however frightened looking and combative and wanting to pull out the tubes, so is kept sedated. He will be undergoing kidney dialysis today due to elevated BUN and creatinine levels. He is still not out of the woods yet, and still intubated at 50%.
